The storm (EN)

In the middle of the storm

That day, a guardian angel sat next to me, or at least watched from a distance.

The force of the raging tornado around me just jerked a little, but it didn't swallow. Maybe that was my luck. In any case, as soon as the storm subsided, I quietly pulled into one corner of the room and breathed; I was glad I was still here. Some were still scattered in the room. From a distance, they seemed lonely and small, but I think that’s exactly what I looked like at that time. The air cleared slowly after the storm and only a pleasant draft swung through the room. I closed my eyes and fell to the floor. I think so much excitement has been enough for today.

I have no idea how long I could have slept, but I suspected it could have lasted for days. I looked around the room, blinking sleepily, where I saw that we had more of us around here. We did not reach the pre-storm state at all, yet we began to gather again. I turned to my side and then sat up. I rubbed my eyes and only then did I realize I must have really slept a lot because the room was flooded with wonderful sunshine. I didn’t really mind at all that I was in my current place because I didn’t like the strong sunshine, it always hurt my eyes. The light breeze still gently walked through every nook and cranny of the room so I could see everyone enjoying it. I think it was an important moment - luckily I didn’t fall asleep then - as this common, pleasant and good feeling brought us together.

In the flood of light, I also saw a large gathering going on, as several "kind-of-us" came into the room with their tiny, invisible parachutes and ended up lying on the floor. It was good to feel that there were more and more of us, I was confident that we might endure more easily in another storm. That thought went well, so I leaned back and admired the little paratroopers in the air. Don’t believe it was because I was lazy, but because it was just good, so I fell asleep again.

The next time I recovered, there were plenty around me, I could barely breathe. The crowd was amazingly large, I was clinging to the wall and I was glad I was able to get up. This time, however, it wasn’t just the amount of "kind-of-us" present that changed; the lights faded and grayness settled over us. The previously pleasant breeze was nowhere to be found, a pre-storm silence fell onto the room. There were no paratroopers or at least I didn’t see them. I looked up at the sky, but I only found closed walls there. Interesting, I thought, that I haven’t noticed this so far, but it could also be that I just haven’t observed it thoroughly. So, all in all, I didn’t really understand how this was possible in an enclosed space. No problem, I reassured myself, there must be a logical explanation for it. Definitely.

A few hours passed when it was noticed that the air was stirring and then it passed. I heard a few knocks. Maybe some further knocks. What could it be? I stretched my neck, but unfortunately I couldn’t see through the gathered gray crowd, so I didn’t have a chance to comprehend what was happening.

Suddenly I heard a soft roar. The sound came suddenly, then sounded monotonous all the time. The storm had never been like this before. The air swirled, then there was silence again.

I would have asked the person next to me what was going on, but I don’t think he knew more than I did, just stretched his neck and clung to the one in front of him. Standing in the crowd wasn’t suffocating anyway, we were more like a huge crowd of sheep. In the pre-shear condition, of course. I put out of my head to find out something, so I just put up with it and looked ahead of me.

It didn’t take long for me to hear the knock again. Then a click. I wondered if that certain voice was coming again. We didn't have to wait long for that to come again. This time it started at a much higher volume. I shivered. It's just like ...
I looked around those around me. I saw the terror on their faces. My opinion was that they had not seen or experienced anything like it before. I do. This was that. The storm, the tornado.

I didn’t really know what to expect this time around, since I endured it once. The storm struck with elemental force and sniffed everyone who was at its center. The others in line disappeared from me, so I clung heavily to others. As it turned out, it was completely unnecessary.
The wind, which in retrospect was not a wind but its inverse, picked me up through a pipe in a careless moment. I flew. Maybe I’ve never flown faster through the dark tube. I didn’t count on how long it all took, but I think it could only last for seconds. The others were here as well, as I crashed into a huge crowd at the end of the road, but it didn’t hurt. It was soft. And what was good about that? That my intuition whispered that the wind would no longer blow. I'm in my place. After all, I'm just a speck of dust, I belong here.

A few minutes later, Mrs. Kirchental hung up that certain tube, pressed the button, and the suction stopped. He wound up the cord and, though cumbersome, lifted the vacuum cleaner and put it in place.

And I rested and waited for what would be next. Eventually we became dust and will become dust. I'm sure of it!

Cicatriz (ES)
